Safety
Plan. Live. Work Safe.
When you partner with Cannistraro, you can be confident that we make worker safety a priority on every HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection project we undertake. From work zone safety to ongoing safety training, upholding rigorous safety standards is at the core of all that we do.
Our hands-on approach to workplace safety is a broader part of Cannistraro’s commitment to the wellbeing of our employees.
The holistic safety program we’ve implemented across our business includes:
Workers have access to our custom-built mobile app that provides a portal for safety forms along with other documentation, training materials, and weekly toolbox talks.
Our teams work to identify new hazards when changes occur in the daily plan by following the steps: Recognize, Eliminate, Discuss.
We use Safety Operation Authorization Permit (SOAP) forms to assess the 12 operations that require a Job Hazard Analysis to be reviewed by the site superintendent and safety director.
Our site superintendent and safety directors use a six-step Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) to gain an in-depth look at a specific operation to identify and plan for possible hazards.
Made up of an apprentice and journeyman from each trade, our safety committee meets once a month to share best practices and make collective decisions about safety policies, procedures, and programs.
Cannistraro provides hands-on training for all foremen, project managers, and assistant project managers. Topics include fall protection, rigging, working in confined spaces, and hazard communication.
We provide comprehensive training on NFPA 70-E along with other technician-related topics.
We offer employees real-world training by reviewing fundamentals like safe scissor lift operation, proper man lift operation, and how to work safely in confined spaces at the job site.
Cannistraro trains area safety coordinators to respond to specific worksite hazards, including asbestos awareness, crane operation, fall protection, and lead awareness.
We send out a monthly safety newsletter to all Cannistraro employees. The newsletter provides updates on safety recalls, recognizes employees, and tracks incident statistics.
Each month, a foreman from each trade leads a toolbox talk that focuses on a specific safety theme.
A safety director and a company principal both conduct weekly safety walks at all of our job sites.
