What Is 3D Laser Scanning?

When you enlist Cannistraro to conduct a 3D laser scan at your facility, we use a device to record geometric data of the surrounding infrastructure. The device mounts on a tripod, allowing it to be placed virtually anywhere. Once in place, it emits a Class 1 laser beam that records nearly 1 million data points each second. As the laser bounces off of visible infrastructure, the device calculates the location and distances between the points to capture accurate spatial measurements.

When we’re finished scanning your facility, the dataset we record represents a series of points that we refer to as the point cloud. With this point cloud, we’re able to generate the most accurate 3D model of your building possible with today’s technology. The device we use also uses an integrated camera to overlay color images onto the points, so we even have the option of creating photorealistic 3D models of your facility.
